"Be of Good Courage"

Psalm 27:14
"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."

The grass roots of all discouragement in life is that of "unbelief". Sometimes we become discouraged when we think we're not making enough money (and we're not convinced that God will supply all our needs). Sometimes we're frustrated and discouraged with our jobs (and we refuse to believe God will help us to be content). Sometimes we're worried and discouraged about our physical health (and we don't pause long enough to consider and remind ourselves that our lives are in God's Hands).

Discouragement is like a huge cloud of darkness that looms overhead, like a cloud that obscures the warmth and joy of the sunshine. In the instance of spiritual discouragement, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is eclipsed in our lives and it becomes the cloud that hides away our Fathers brightness and even our joy and security in Him.

Discouragement is Satan's device to thwart the work of God working in our lives. Discouragement blinds our eyes to the tender love and mercy of our God, and causes us to perceive only the unfavorable circumstances.

There is only one way to dispel discouragement, and it is not in our own strength or ingenuity. It is instead to turn in faith to God, believing that He Loves us, cares for us, will provide all our needs, and that He alone is in control of our here and now, and in our future. The Bible tells us, "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."

And so we should. And when we do that ~ the dark cloud of discouragement will move aside and will once again allow the light of God to warm our hearts and brighten our days.

God Bless,
